Personal Style

Style has never been about owning the biggest wardrobe or chasing every new trend. For me, it’s always been about something much simpler: opening my wardrobe, putting an outfit together and feeling like myself.
That feeling hasn’t always come easily. Like so many women, I’ve spent years buying clothes because they suited a particular trend, looked amazing on someone else or promised to transform my wardrobe overnight. Some pieces became favourites that I’ve worn for years. Others stayed hidden behind the wardrobe door with the tags still attached, reminding me that buying more doesn’t automatically mean dressing better.

Confidence & Personal Style

One of the biggest style lessons I’ve learnt is that confidence begins before you even open your wardrobe.
When you know who you are, getting dressed becomes so much easier. You’re no longer trying to impress strangers or recreate someone else’s aesthetic. Instead, you’re choosing clothes that reflect your personality, your lifestyle and how you want to feel.
That’s why I don’t believe there’s a single formula for great style. Some women feel amazing in sharp tailoring, while others come alive in bold prints, oversized knitwear or trainers worn with a beautifully cut dress. None of those choices is more stylish than another because personal style has never been about copying. It’s about recognising what feels authentic and wearing it with confidence.

Dress For The Life You're Living

I think we’ve all bought clothes for an imaginary version of ourselves at some point. The dress for a glamorous event that never happens. The towering heels that look amazing in the shop but are impossible to walk in. The statement jacket that only works with one outfit. Before long, the wardrobe is overflowing, yet somehow there’s still “nothing to wear.”

These days, I shop very differently. I want my wardrobe to reflect the life I’m actually living, whether that’s meeting friends for brunch, travelling, attending a press event or simply enjoying a quiet weekend at home. Every piece needs to earn its place because I know I’ll reach for it again and again.

Living with Lupus has shaped my approach to getting dressed, too. As much as I love fashion and expressing myself through personal style, there are days when I’m exhausted, dealing with a flare or simply don’t have the energy to think about putting an outfit together. On those days, you’ll usually find me in a comfortable tracksuit or lounge set, and if I’m honest, those days happen more often than I’d like.

A few years ago, I might have felt guilty about that or worried that I wasn’t making enough effort. Now, I’ve learned to be okay with it. Personal style isn’t about looking perfectly put together every single day. It’s about dressing for the life you’re living and giving yourself the grace to choose comfort when your body needs it most.

Ironically, embracing that mindset has made me feel more confident, not less. Getting dressed is no longer stressful because my wardrobe works with my lifestyle instead of against it, and that means I enjoy fashion far more than I ever did when I was chasing an unrealistic version of myself.

Build A Wardrobe That Works For You

A confident wardrobe isn’t about owning hundreds of clothes. It’s about owning the right clothes for the life you actually live.

Over the years, I’ve realised the pieces I value most are rarely the newest additions. They’re the blazer that instantly pulls an outfit together, the jeans I know fit perfectly, the white shirt that works just as well for a brunch date as it does for a press event, and the trainers I can comfortably wear all day. They’re the pieces I reach for without thinking because I know they make me feel like myself.

I’ve stopped buying clothes for “just in case” and started investing in pieces that genuinely earn their place. Every new addition has to work with what’s already in my wardrobe, not compete with it. That shift has made shopping more intentional, getting dressed less stressful and my personal style feel far more authentic.

Ironically, owning less has given me more outfit options. When everything works together, you spend less time wondering what to wear and more time feeling confident in whatever you choose.

Let Fashion Inspire You, Not Define You

I genuinely enjoy following fashion. I love seeing what’s appearing on the runway, spotting colour trends and watching how designers reinterpret classic silhouettes each season.

What I don’t believe is that every trend deserves a place in my wardrobe.

Fashion should inspire you, not overwhelm you.

Sometimes a new season simply reminds me to wear something I’ve owned for years differently. Other times it’s a colour combination I hadn’t considered or a styling trick that completely changes how I look at a favourite blazer.

When I’m looking for wearable inspiration rather than impossible trends, I often browse Grazia Fashion. I like how it translates catwalk moments into outfits that feel relevant to everyday life, rather than expecting everyone to buy a brand-new wardrobe every few months. If you enjoy keeping up with fashion without feeling pressured to follow every trend, take a look at Grazia’s latest fashion features.

Style Evolves As You Do

Your personal style is about so much more than the clothes hanging in your wardrobe. It’s a reflection of where you’ve been, what you’ve experienced and the woman you’ve become. Every outfit tells a story, whether it’s the trainers you’ve walked countless cities in, the blazer you wear when you need a confidence boost or the dress that reminds you of a holiday you’ll never forget.

My wardrobe today looks very different from the one I had in my twenties, and I’m glad it does. As my life has changed, so has the way I dress. Travel has influenced my style, Lupus has taught me to value comfort without compromising confidence, and getting older has made me far less interested in dressing for anyone else’s approval. These days, I choose pieces that make me feel like the best version of myself rather than the version I think other people expect to see.

Fashion trends will always come and go, but personal style becomes stronger with every chapter of your life. It grows alongside your confidence, your experiences and the memories you create along the way. The most stylish people aren’t the ones wearing every new trend; they’re the ones whose clothes genuinely reflect who they are.

At the end of the day, the best wardrobe isn’t the biggest or the most expensive. It’s the one that tells your story every time you get dressed. And if your style changes over the years, that’s not a sign you’ve lost your identity—it’s proof that you’ve grown into it.

Confidence Looks Different On Everyone

One of the biggest myths in fashion is that confidence has a specific look. It doesn’t.

For some women, confidence comes from wearing a beautifully tailored blazer, while for others, it might stem from a bold print, a favorite pair of sneakers, or the lipstick they can’t leave the house without. What truly matters is not whether someone else would wear your outfit, but whether you feel like yourself in it.

I’ve learned to stop worrying about the number on a clothing label since sizing varies significantly from one brand to another. The right fit will always look and feel better than squeezing into something that doesn’t fit comfortably. When you wear clothes that suit both your body and your lifestyle, you naturally stand a little taller—and that’s something no trend can replace.

Fashion should empower you, not pressure you.

Take Inspiration, Then Make It Your Own

One of my favourite things about fashion is discovering new ways to wear the clothes I already own. Inspiration is everywhere, but the trick is knowing how to adapt it rather than copying it.

When I’m looking for fresh outfit ideas, I often browse Who What Wear UK because its editors are brilliant at showing how runway trends translate into everyday wardrobes. It’s practical, stylish and full of ideas you can genuinely recreate, whether you’re shopping your own wardrobe or adding one thoughtful new piece. Browse the latest style inspiration on Who What Wear UK,

That’s the approach I always come back to. Take what inspires you, leave what doesn’t and build a wardrobe that feels unmistakably yours. Style becomes far more enjoyable when you stop trying to look like everyone else and start embracing what suits you.

Confidence Is The Best Thing You'll Ever Wear

The most stylish women I’ve encountered all share one common trait: they are not trying to be anyone else. Some wear designer labels, others prefer vintage finds, and many mix both without a second thought. What makes them truly memorable isn’t the brand on their clothing—it’s the confidence with which they wear it.

That’s the kind of style I aim for— a wardrobe that reflects who I am today, supports the life I lead, and allows me to express my personality without feeling pressured to keep up with every passing trend.

Real style isn’t about having more clothes; it’s about making the clothes you choose feel completely and unapologetically yours.
