As a thank you for taking her to the Deli a few days ago little sis treated me to a ticket to the Worth The Weight: Peckham Vintage Kilo Sale.
We have been talking about going to boot sales and vintage shopping together for some time now, so I was excited to be gifted with the ticket.
I had previously gone to a kilo sale some time ago (perhaps before the lockdown), and not only was I happy with the items I purchased, but I still wear them.
However, I could have been more strategic and made better use of my time rather than zig-zagging around with no real aim.

What Is A Kilo Sale
A Kilo Sales is a unique concept that offers thousands of vintage bargains to rummage through. At a kilo sale, items are priced based on weight, not individual value, allowing you to find high-quality, unique pieces at a fraction of the cost. Let’s dive in and explore this exciting shopping experience. A kilo sale is massive, with hundreds of clothing rails packed with thousands of vintage bargains.
You pick the items you like, take them to the till, where they are weighed, and then pay based on the combined weight.
The sale was an exhilarating experience, with the thrill of discovering a substantial amount of vintage pieces at once and seizing some bargains in the process. The excitement of the hunt, the rush of finding that perfect piece, is a significant part of the fun, but you have to be ready to put in the effort to find your treasures.
To make the day enjoyable, we would only spend £20 at the event and then see who got the best items within the budget.
So, you’re a Kilo Sale virgin? Don’t worry; I’ve got you covered. After my experience, I’ve gathered some tips to help you navigate your first Kilo Sale like a pro.

Arrive Early
The sale is continuously restocked throughout the day. However, I suffer from a major fear of missing out, so I prefer to get there early to avoid missing out on that one piece that I can’t be without.
Travel Light
You must keep your hands free, so please refrain from rocking up with a massive bag. A small bag, or even better, a bumbag containing the essentials, is all you need for a more effortless browsing experience.

Don’t Overthink; Grab!
I am not suggesting you grab items out of other shoppers’ hands! If you need more clarification on an item, keep hold of it. Once you have looked at all the rails, you can take your time and curate your purchase before you go to the tills to weigh and pay. Remember, when it’s gone, most of the pieces on offer will be unique.
Check Everything And Check Again!
Review everything to ensure you know what you’re purchasing before paying. Nothing is worse than getting something home and finding a stain or tear you can’t fix.
Dress Light
As there were no changing rooms, people just went to the side to try things on or held them up against themselves. I even saw people with tape measures, which was too organized for me. I opted to wear a form-fitting item, which consisted of leggings and a basic top with a cardigan, so if need be, I could slip items over the top to ensure a good fit.
Reflect On Your Choices
After completing your selections, find a quiet corner to review your choices. If you have a friend with you, this will be the perfect time to get a second opinion. Having someone else’s perspective when making your final decisions is always helpful. Ask yourself honestly if you’ll wear the items and are willing to make that second financial investment if they need any alterations or repairs.
Stay Calm And Focused
Faced with rails and rails of affordable clothes, you might feel the urge to grab everything. However, this can lead to a chaotic experience when it’s time to weigh and pay. Only buy things you know you can give a good home, no matter how tempting the prices may look. Being selective and knowing what you want and what suits you is critical to a successful kilo sale experience.
I ended up spending more than the £20 budget—sorry, not sorry—because I found some lovely scarves and some XL men’s denim shirts, which I plan to wear as dresses paired with some over-the-knee boots. The unexpected treasures, the items you didn’t even know you were looking for, make a kilo sale so exciting and rewarding.
