Things You Should Think About Before Vacationing With Friends pexels-nappy-936018

Tips For Vacationing With Friends

Vacationing With Friends is a unique, enriching experience that can completely change the dynamic of your relationship with the person/people you have chosen to go away with. I’ve had my fair share of both beautiful and challenging experiences. You and your travel buddy could better understand each other, strengthening your relationship, or you could bump heads at every turn and fall out. It’s all part of the journey.

Here are a few things to consider before Vacationing With Friends:

Set A Vacation Budget Everyone Can Agree On

One of the most crucial aspects to agree on is the vacation budget. Many holidays and friendships have been strained over financial disagreements.  Discussing and deciding on these before booking is vital, whether it’s the total holiday cost, payment schedules, or excursion expenses. Set a comprehensive budget that covers all fees, including food and transfers, and stick to it.

Finding Travel Accommodations Suitable For Everyone

Accommodation also needs to be discussed and agreed upon upfront. While some people are not fussed about where they lay their heads at night, others don’t feel comfortable unless they have all the modern conveniences of home. Whatever your or your travel companion’s preferences are, it’s always best to review them beforehand and reach a mutual compromise.

Smooth Airport Experience

Technically, the time you spend in the airport and on the plane is minimal in the grand scheme of an entire trip together. Still, at the same time, it will be the first and last thing you guys have to tackle together, so it is essential to agree on those things that may seem minor and insignificant but can potentially put a dark cloud on your trip, such as:

How early would you like to get there before your flight?

  • Should you upgrade your seats on the flights?
  • Is it more cost-effective to take a cab to the airport or park at the airport?
  • Are you going to get drunk on the plane? lol
  • Does anyone need airport assistance?

Everybody’s travel habits can be different, but being considerate of your travel companion can make a world of difference.

Chill Out Time: The Secret Ingredient for a Great Vacation

While you may know everyone your best friend has dated, you probably don’t know their sleeping habits. You may like a lay-in on a Sunday morning while they like to get up and go. Personally, for me, one of the best things about a holiday is NAPPING, by the pool, on the beach, having a sneaky nap in the room and also having early nights (Yeah, I’m a Granny), I can’t just have a nap in the middle of the day during a typical work week. Hence, this is a treat for me. However, I acknowledge that hanging around watching me sleep could be hell for someone I am travelling with, so again, I make sure to set my expectations beforehand so we can plan what we do in such circumstances. For example, when your travel companion is taking a nap, it could be the perfect time to explore the resort, curl up with a book, or even grab a cheeky massage.

Keep Everyone Happy With Vacation Plans

While you and your friend may be excited about a trip to Jamaica, it’s essential to understand what the trip means to each of you. Does it involve relaxing by the pool, excursions, or experiencing the nightlife? Discuss your expectations to plan a balanced itinerary that caters to your interests.

Travelling with someone can be frustrating and stressful, but it can also be fun and exciting. It is best to be aware of potential issues, talk them through, and then move past them beforehand. Then, you know what problems you’re willing to compromise on and which you’re not. We spend the best part of the year thinking about or looking forward to our holidays, so have a great time and try not to let silly disagreements ruin it.
