This season, Poet-Lab leaned fully into that dialogue with its AW-SS26 collection, Resistant When Opposites Break. What we witnessed wasn’t just a runway presentation; it was a manifesto stitched into fabric, a celebration of resistance, vulnerability, and power all at once.

The Poet-Lab AW-SS26 collection isn’t just a lineup of clothes; it’s a reflection of contrasts that define modern identity. Inspired by dualities — soft vs. structured, fluid vs. rigid, light vs. dark — the collection asks: what happens when opposites finally collide?
The answer? They don’t collapse into chaos. They break, and in that breaking, they become something more substantial. That’s resilience, redefined.
A Palette That Speaks in Contradictions
Colour in this collection felt like a language of its own. Imagine stormy charcoals against fragile blush pinks, inky blacks sliced open with jolts of metallic silver, and soft ivory punctuated with fiery crimson. It was less about harmony and more about deliberate friction — every shade pushing against the next.
And yet, in that friction, beauty was born. The way a molten silver gown reflected harsh runway lights against a matte, jet-black bomber was electric. It was resistance visualised, and it left the audience wide-eyed.

Accessories weren’t afterthoughts; they were punctuation marks. Heavy chain chokers clashed with delicate drop earrings, and combat boots stomped alongside lace-up heels. Bags bags by Nimphé came structured, like miniature fortresses, or slouchy like collapsed architecture.
This duality even extended to beauty: models wore slicked-back hair paired with smudged, imperfect eyeliner — as though perfection was never the point.
Diversity and Representation
What truly made this show resonate was its casting. The runway featured women of colour, and Black women in particular, not as tokens but as muses — commanding, central, unapologetic. Poet-Lab’s refusal to homogenise the beauty standard made the AW-SS26 collection feel as inclusive as it was radical.
As a Black woman myself, seeing those reflections of empowerment front and centre was goosebump-worthy. Representation isn’t a footnote — it’s the story.

In a fashion landscape that often prefers polished perfection, Poet-Lab chose friction, conflict, and breakage. And in doing so, they reminded us that resilience isn’t smooth or linear. It’s jagged, layered, contradictory.

A voluminous sculptural piece crafted to resemble floating clouds, wrapping around the body in dense white formations. The effect is surreal, playful, and statement-making, cinched subtly with dark straps peeking through. Styled with sheer ankle socks and soft flats, it plays with ideas of fragility, lightness, and conceal/reveal.
Painterly Sheer Gown
A flowing, floor-sweeping gown in a vivid painterly floral print. The fabric is light and sheer, with a plunging neckline and high leg slit, evoking sensuality and freedom. The print feels romantic yet chaotic, a nod to the tension of opposites the collection explores.
Earth-Toned Sheer Column
A sheer, diaphanous brown maxi dress with a halter-style neckline, fluid and ethereal in motion. Beneath, structural underpinnings and lingerie are visible, contrasting modesty and exposure. The earthy tone grounds the dreaminess, giving it a natural, almost elemental presence.
Black Sculptural Hem Dress
A minimal black sleeveless dress with a dropped waistline and dramatic gathered sculptural hem that creates bulbous volume at the base. The piece balances simplicity with an avant-garde silhouette, paired with sheer socks and flats for a stripped-back finish.
Emerald Green Draped Gown
An elegant floor-length emerald gown with deep V neckline and twisted drape at the waist, flowing into gathered fabric that skims the body. Styled with a bold magenta-red handbag, this look leans into sophistication while still keeping an edge through its exaggerated draping.
Camel Cut-Out Ensemble
A camel-toned mini dress layered with a matching coat featuring oversized grommet-style cut-outs and brown fabric ties. The contrast between tailored structure and raw, deconstructed details pushes the “opposites” theme. The bare legs and neutral shoes keep the focus on the bold construction.
Off-Shoulder Black & Leather Volume
A dramatic off-shoulder black blouse with exaggerated draping and asymmetry, paired with wide leather trousers that bring texture and weight. This outfit fuses softness with toughness, a clear play on the collection’s central theme of resistance and contrast.
