My Experience: Busta Rhymes At The South Facing Festival Lived Up To The Hype, But Still 1 Gripe

Busta Rhymes

Not many artists can draw me into the vibrant energy of a park dance party, but Busta Rhymes is undoubtedly one of them! The fact that the park was a mere 15-minute drive from my home only sweetened the experience.

This was my fourth time witnessing his electrifying performance. My journey with him began when I was just 13 at the unforgettable Total concert. I was so determined to meet him that I made my way to the VIP area, and to my delight, I succeeded! Following that milestone, I had the incredible opportunity to attend his Big Bang concert at the iconic Apollo in Hammersmith, where the atmosphere was charged with excitement.

One of the most memorable moments occurred during Labour Day weekend in Miami, when a chance encounter in the elevator of the Ganservourt Hotel led to an unexpected conversation with him. It was one of those unique experiences you never forget.

Even though I usually hesitate to attend festivals due to my Lupus and mobility challenges, Busta’s much-anticipated appearance at London’s South Facing Festival was an event I couldn’t skip. To ease my concerns about getting around, I opted for VIP access, hoping it would provide the support I needed to fully enjoy the day.

The South Facing Festival has truly distinguished itself as the premier open-air concert of 2025! On Friday, August 15, 2025, the iconic Crystal Palace Bowl in London transformed into a vibrant celebration of hip-hop. Fans experienced an incredible lineup featuring three legendary artists—Busta Rhymes, Redman, and Big Daddy Kane—who delivered an unforgettable performance. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as the dynamic trio engaged the audience with their electrifying stage presence, powerful lyrics, and nostalgic hits. Attendees hailed the festival as a fantastic celebration of hip-hop culture, packed with unforgettable moments and an uplifting vibe that left everyone feeling inspired and joyful! This event is one for the books!

My 1 Gripe

As I mentioned earlier, I wanted to enjoy the event comfortably, so I invested in VIP tickets. However, I must admit that I was not impressed. The VIP ticket was supposed to offer:

  • Additional seating
  • A private bar
  • Premium toilets
  • An additional food trader
  • Express queueing

While the express queueing and private bar were great, and the premium toilets were a welcome change from the usual portaloos, the promised additional seating and food trader were disappointing.

Don’t get me wrong; there was some seating in the VIP area—specifically, Chesterfield sofas—but there was nowhere near enough for everyone with VIP tickets. As a result, my friends and I ended up sitting on the grass, which is not ideal when you’ve forked out over £100 for a VIP ticket.

However, I didn’t let this overshadow my enjoyment. I still had a great time dancing (I may have even twerked!), which I’m sure I will regret later. Nonetheless, it would have been nice to have somewhere comfortable to sit, especially since I paid extra for that privilege.
